On June 25, the world's largest and highest-altitude hydro-solar hybrid power plant ‘Kela’ was successfully connected to the grid for power generation, marking the official commissioning of the world's first gigawatt hydro-solar hybrid power plant! The project is located in Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province, with a maximum altitude of 4,600 meters and an installed PV capacity of 1 million kilowatts (1 GW). The power plant is connected to the Lianghekou Hydropower Station at a distance of 50 kilometers through a 500kV transmission line, making a "bundle" of solar power and hydropower. The average annual power generation of the ‘Kela’ power plant reaches 2 billion kWh, being able to save more than 600,000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 1.6 million tons every year.

The project’s planned total capacity is 3.2 GW, and it is the first power plant to be directly dispatched by the Southwest Power Grid. SPRIXIN, the provider of power forecasting services, is thus the first power forecast service provider to transmit Southwest Network Commissioning directly! The Southwest Power Grid administrates and dispatches large-scale wind and solar plants like ‘Kela’, so it requires more reporting documents with special template format and specifications. In addition, the ‘Kela’ solar power plant has a large area and complex geographical and meteorological environments. In order to ensure the accuracy of the power forecast, SPRIXIN forecasting solution installed a set of meteorological monitors respectively in the booster station and PV area to ensure the accuracy of the collected data. SPRIXIN has also completed the 18 reporting requirements of the Southwest Power Grid, including theoretical power, power generation, daily operation reports, monthly reports, etc. With technical expertise, SPRIXIN helps lay a solid foundation for exploring a mature path of hydro-solar integrated dispatching.

The Yalong River Basin is the main energy base of China’s west-to-east power transmission strategy and is significant to Sichuan's power supply. Bundling the solar power of the ‘Kela’ solar power plant with hydropower can output more stable power for large-scale electricity consumption, especially on the occasion of the Summer peak.

The ‘Kela’ solar power plant went through an arduous process from construction to final operation, setting a number of national and even global records, accumulating valuable experience for the development of large-scale solar power plants in high-altitude areas. SPRIXIN has too, overcome many difficulties with its solid technical strength, and has made a modest contribution to the development of global clean energy.
